THERE IS NO REASON ON EARTH TO CHARGE A FAMILY FIVE TIMES THE COST OF A DECENT CASKET. I UNDERSTAND PROFIT BUT FUNERAL HOMES TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE IN A DEPRESSED STATE OF MIND WHO WANT TO DO THE RIGHT THING FOR THEIR LOVED ONES. I FOUND THE EXACT CASKET MY FAMILY MEMBER WAS BURIED IN FOR FOUR THOUSAND LESS ON LINE AND COULD HAVE BEEN SHIPPED TO THE HOME WE USED. I AM ANGRY THAT MY FAMILY WAS PUT INTO AN UNEXPECTED FINANCIAL COST AND THEN TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF SO BADLY. THERE SHOULD BE A CAP PUT ON HOW MUCH FUNERAL HOMES CAN UP THE CHARGE OF THE CASKET. THE TV SHOW GAVE PRICES AND SAID UP TO 100% MARKUP.

Thanks, Tim! I’m blushing! I thought the show was a great START for getting the word out about what we REALLY do as a profession.

Hi there, thanks for the comment! I do agree on the narrow view, but I appreciate the view at all. Usually our profession is simply pinned as the “bad guys” in national media and this episode brought some light to that situation. And by the way, love that quote!

It was an intriguing episode. To me it was a narrow view of the industry as a whole and a little heavy on the financial aspects. Hardly we see similar treatment of other aspects of human existence. As if there is some unresolved issue between the noble and necessary endeavor of the funeral industry and the simple fact that it is “a living”.

All too often we forget the wise words of Gladstone:
“Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead, and I will measure with mathematical exactness, the tender mercies of its people, their loyalty to high ideals, and their regard for the laws the land”.
